Hardware Needed

• The minimum hardware requirements for working Video Chat. Good news! Unless you do not already have a webcam, you will probably exceed all requirements and will not need additional equipment.

You Need:

 

1) Windows-based computer

You need a computer with at least Windows 2000, XP or Vista, with at least a 400Mhz processor and 256 MB of memory. Hard disk should have at least 1 gigabyte of space. Chances are that you already have them all if your computer is 5 years or newer.

 

2) Video camera / web-cam

You can use a camera or a high-end video camera connected to a standard USB gate, or through a capture card. Most professionals tend to recommend Logitech cameras (Logitech QuickCam 9000), which can be easily purchased anywhere. Eventually you can use a webcam that you already have delaying the purchase of a better one at a second time (We don't sell any kind of webcams and are not affiliated with Logitech or anybody else, choices being only up to you).

 

3) Broadband Internet connection

You need a fast and reliable Internet connection (DSL, cable, etc.), the uplink bandwidth of at least 300Kb/s. If you have a broadband connection you probably already exceed all uplink connection requirements (You may follow this link to freely test your connection).

 

4) Microphone

You need a microphone, so you can talk to Clients. Speaking with Customers is particularly encouraged, because with it you will make more money! (See the tutorial, "Using audio for your benefit."). A stand-alone quality microphone will produce the best results. However, some of the best webcams have built in microphones and certainly they can be used as well. Logitech QuickCam 9000, mentioned above, is one such device.
